Are You Ready For Some Football?

Let me start by apologizing to everyone for my week long hiatus from writing in my blog.  Work with the radio station, BigDawgRadio, has been taking all my time and then some.  Really, I have felt very stressed about it this week.  But finally, a week after the launch, we appear to have gotten past all the big technical issues, and the station is running.  It’s exciting, totally a blast, and life is getting back to normal.

So I sit down, one week later, to write an entry for my blog.  I’ve never gone a week without writing, and I find that there are just too many issues to write about, and that I am having trouble starting for that reason.

An obvious quality first topic would be the upcoming 5 year anniversary of 9/11, but as I will be dedicating a post to commemorating a victim on Monday, I would hate to take away from it with a post memorializing the attack.  Or I could comment on the ABC 9/11 film that has pissed off Bill Clinton, but I don’t see much purpose talking about it before seeing it, so I’ll put that on the back burner.

More interesting is Brad Pitt’s comments that he would not marry Angelina Jolie until any two people that wanted to get married could get married.  Much applause to Pitt for standing up for gay rights, but that’s pretty much the extent of the story. Similarly, I could write about Ehud Olmert’s willingness to negotiate with Mahmoud Abbas, but beyond Olmert trying to give Abbas legitimacy while taking it away from Hamas, not much to talk about there.  So what should I talk about?

FOOTBALL!

Despite Thursday’s game between the Steelers and Dolphins, the real opening day is tomorrow, Sunday, football Sunday!  And the way you can tell is because at 1:00 pm my Philadelphia Eagles face off against the Houston Texans in Reliant stadium.  Gotta love ‘da Birds!

The Eagles have one of the easiest schedules in the NFL this year, some say the easiest, all due to a horrible 6-10 season last year.  But last year, the team was tainted by a rash of injuries and a plague upon the team, going by the name of Terrell Owens.  This year will be a different story.

The Eagles have beefed up both their offensive and defensive lines this year, and anyone who knows the sport knows that games are won in the trenches.  Philadelphia will be much more capable of stopping the run this year, and can give Donovan McNabb the time needed to throw the ball.  Plus, we have replaced TO with Dante Stallworth, an exceptional receiver from the Saints with outstanding hands, breakaway speed, and an exceptional attitude.

People forget that only two years ago, the Eagles were the best in the NFC, by far.  We had gone to 3 straight NFC championships in the previous years, and had gotten TO to take us over the hump.  TO turned out to be more divisive than helpful, and the distractions surrounding him caused the team to crumble.  But with a different great top receiver, and the same team core, this is a team which is ready to reclaim its top ranking.

Right now, everyone and their grandmother picks the Eagles dead last in the NFC East.  But I am looking for the Birds to be back in the playoffs, and even to make a run for the playoffs.  This team is still intact, with one major exception, and is ready to prove the critics wrong. Now they have to go on the field and prove me right. Gotta love opening day!

Radio Show Tonight at 9pm EST

First off, many apologies to all for not having blogged in a week. It has been a frantic, madcapped week as we worked on getting BigDawgRadio up to full capacity. But I must say that I now see the light at the end of the tunnel, and that the station is really starting to meet its potential. It's totally exciting!

Yes, I know I have been on the air quite a bit this past week, but tonight is my normal show, the big show, and I've been very psyched getting ready for it. So I wanted to give everyone some key links, so you can be part of the show:

First off, you can hear the show at BigDawgRadio. If you haven't seen the site yet, Luna did an amazing job on it, so check it out. While you're there, grab a request. This will insert your request right into my playlist, and get it heard as soon as possible! You can also post comments or requests on the chat box on the main page.

I will be hanging out in three chat rooms tonight: first off, there is the 3 Paws Saloon, which I only discovered a couple weeks ago and absolutely love!

I'll also be in BlogExplosion's Shoutbox, where the management has been so kind as to set up a chat room just for the show so I can hang out with some of my best friends on the web. And finally, I'm beginning to explore the world of BlogMad, who also has a very cool chat room. Don't you love a world where you can be in multiple places at once?

So come hang out for another episode of the Nomad Show on BigDawgRadio, and become part of the show. This is your show, your night, and we're more than glad you are here. Hope to see you tonight!
